Latest news

Quite a lot has changed at the hall and will continue to change;  as you probably know it is receiving a big face lift and will continue to have additional work done over the next few months.  The days the Pre-School meet is changing and so from September it is planned that they will be open on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – the committee see this as very beneficial and it will offer opportunities that weren’t possible when the Pre-School was open on alternate days.

On 19th May the Village Hall Management Committee held its first Annual General Meeting since January 2020. This took place in the newly refurbished Hall and besides the Committee members 12 Whilton residents attended too.

A number of members were retiring. Nick Busby, Gordon Seal and Phil Grant were thanked for all their past work. There was particular mention of Nick for his tireless liaison work during lockdown and for his success in applying for a grant for the Hall.

There was an especially warm acknowledgement of the input from Shirley Brown who has been undertaking the demanding role of Treasurer for at least the last ten years. Anthea presented Shirley with a bouquet of flowers and a thank you card signed by all present.

This year the new committee will comprise:

Group Representatives

Bell Ringers and Church - Janet Bowers

Parish Council - Ann Gilbert

Local History Society - Anthea Hiscock (until a new representative replaces her)

Whilton Gardeners Association - Sarah Hardman

Whilton & Brington Pre-School - Trisha Dominici

PCC - No-one yet nominated

Three residents stood for three places:

Helen Camps, Gill Martin and Rachel.

Booking Arrangements

The hall is available for hire for meetings or social occasions where you might need a little more space.  It has seating for just over 40 people and has one main room, toilets and a small kitchen.  It is used by the Pre-School in term time, and by the Parish Council and other village organisations for meetings and social events.  Current charges are £8 per hour.  If you're interested in hiring the hall, contact the Booking Clerk Mary Kane on 07922 478633 (email) or Sarah Hardman on 07548 688045 (email).  The full standard conditions of hire can be seen here and you can read the history of the hall here.
